Bagua Mountain, Changhua Taiwan. This is my daily cardiovascular workout area. I have lost count of how many times I have walked these steps. Just beautiful, especially in the evening. It is also a nice refuge during the hot summer months because the temperature here can be as much as 5-7 degrees cooler than down in the city. Love it!
Everyday is market day in Changhua. I could sketch this place one thousand times and every time would be different. It’s hustle and bustle to the nth degree. I love the energy and so many colors, smells and characters. Noodler’s Ahab flex pen with carbon black ink and watercolor in a Moleskine watercolor journal.

I liked the contrast between the “new looking” window shade and the rest of the house. A new window shade is a start-I guess. The weathered wood is still beautiful, but I couldn’t do it justice with my water brush.
I was out sketching and this guy pulled up on his scooter, smiled, and gave me the victory sign. I immediately recognized that what I was seeing was the “Taiwan Spirit”. It is one of the things I love about this country and the people. No matter how tough times get, the Taiwan people never give up. This hard working man took the time to stop, give me a smile and the much used V sign. I grabbed my camera and asked him to do it again. I had to draw this at my desk from a photo so it is not a pure urban sketch.
Just a typical row of older houses in Changhua. Each one depending on and supported by the house next to it while also providing it’s own support. Kinda like how we (as a people) should be.
This blazing pink Volkswagon is a new addition to Bagua mountain. The color can be seen from outer space and the coffee is cheap and delicious. Just a hard working mom trying to make a go at it.
The color of these doors interested me enough to want to sketch them and their surroundings. I have drove by this old structure many times and I have never seen any of the doors open. I am very curious as to what is inside this building. For some reason, door number three keeps drawing my attention. I’ve noticed that the back section of roof is bowing more and more. I hope the owners repair it before it gives out. I’m sure they are aware of the roof. Maybe they will open the doors when and if they make repairs and I can get a peek inside.
There are dozens of stores like this in Changhua. I don’t know what the stores profit margin is, but it can’t be too much. Buyer beware here because the price reflects the quality and some of these T-shirts will shrink down to the size of baby clothes after the first wash. I use these for when I know I am going to get dirty. I liked how the mannikin is helping to hold two shirts for display. Didn’t make that so clear here-kind of small. Anyhow, that’s what caught my eye.
